After being located at the Dr. Lelykade for nearly forty years, Roeleveld Vis moved to Visafslagweg 30 (Fish Auction Road) at Scheveningen harbour. We are proud to say that we designed the modern building that houses our shop, restaurant, smokehouse and wholesale business ourselves. As all of our business activities are located under one roof we are able to run an efficient and sustainable business. We offer fresh, top quality fish and work according to traditional methods. Roeleveld Vis is a real Scheveningen family business that has been selling fish for over fifty years. The late patriarch, Cor Roeleveld, began his career as a market trader in Zwijndrecht and surrounding towns. However, home is where the heart is and in 1975 he opened his first brand new fish shop in Scheveningen. Both his experience and excellent reputation made his shop at the Dr. Lelykade a great success. Around that time Roeleveld Vis started the craft of smoking fish. At first our traditional smoked fish was only for sale in our shop but was soon in demand by as well. Roeleveld Vis is one of the bigger modern fish smokers in the Netherlands.
As the business flourished and the demand of our products increased the shop was renovated and expanded a couple of times. A couple of Cor Roeleveld’s sons went into the fish retail business too, starting their own shops. In 1995, old Roeleveld retired and some of his sons took over the business. With the experience they gained from working in the family business, a couple of them started their own fish shop. When the municipality gazetted the Dr. Lelykade for residential premises, Roeleveld had to relocate. It was a perfect opportunity to further grow the business. Roeleveld Vis has been located at the Visafslagweg 30 in Scheveningen since May 2014. Years of experience helped with the design of this practical yet stylish location, and we can continue to grow even more efficiently and share our expertise with our customers.
